Irritable bowel syndrome affects many people, and although it is not a fatal illness, it can and does change a persons’ lifestyle dramatically. One way to help to keep these symptoms under control is to follow an ibs diet.
You can find that certain types of foods will actually trigger your irritable bowel symptoms, and you will soon learn to avoid these foods. Foods that really should be taken out of your diet completely are; alcohol, high fat foods, caffeine, dairy products, red meat and fizzy drinks. Really if a food falls into one of these categories, it is best avoided.
Try not to make your ibs diet feel like a prison from which you can’t escape, but rather think of it as your own personal lifestyle. Try and find substitutes for some of the foods that you have had to give up, and don’t waste time thinking about the food you can’t have.
