What Are The IBS Foods To Avoid?

There are a lot of foods that can cause problems for you if you have IBS. Here is a list of ibs foods to avoid so you will no longer have to worry about groceries and your diet:-

Too much fiber - Although fiber is the key to maintaining your IBS, having too much fiber can actually cause it to go the other way.  So, if before you had diarrhea you could end up getting constipation. There is one thing you can do to stop this and not worry about too much fiber and that is drink enough water. By drinking enough you will make sure you are always hydrated enough and your intestines have enough moisture to keep the stools soft.

Fatty foods – Americans love fatty foods, but they tend to be the tasty item that causes a good portion of our health issues. By eating too much fatty foods when you have IBS you are adding a lot of moisture in the form of grease to your stool. This can almost always cause you to have diarrhea. What’s even worst is when you have diarrhea with IBS you get bloating, cramping and gas as well.

Alcohol – This is another ibs food to avoid. Even if you don’t drink it often it can still be a problem. With this you might want to consider not drinking coffee as well.  Both of these drinks can cause the digestive track to contract causing you to have to go to the bathroom more often than you are ready to go. Additionally this will cause cramps as well.

Soda has a lot of carbonation in it. This carbonation actually bubbles up inside of your digestive track and causes gas, so unfortunately you might want to avoid this drink as well, or atleast cut back and drink it less often.

On top of these foods you should also stay away from eggs and dairy if at all possible. Because both can add to your symptoms.

If you find that even with the ibs foods to avoid out of your diet you are still having trouble with gas there are a whole host of vegetables that you can keep out of your diet as well. For example beans, broccoli and cabbage can cause a lot of gas.

Last but not least there is one other thing you can do. You can eat smaller meals more often. This will be less work for your body at any given time.

Of course everyone responds differently to all kinds of foods and their own strain of IBS and you will be no exception. Just be sure to track what you eat for a couple of weeks to a month to be sure of what you can and cannot handle.  More information on IBS foods to avoid here
