Facts about Irritable Bowel Symptoms
Irritable bowel is more commonly referred to and known as either ibs or irritable bowel syndrome. There is no actual known reason why this syndrome suddenly appears, and as such there cannot be a absolute cure for it.
Generally irritable bowel symptoms are merely a mild irritant for some, but for others it is quite disabling and can affect their way of life.
The irritable bowel symptoms include attacks of either constipation and or diarrhea. While constipation causes the sufferer abdominal cramping, often with passing of a dry hard stool which can be painful, diarrhea causes the patient to have an uncontrollable urge to go to the toilet, often producing liquidy stools that can be mixed with mucus.
Other irritable bowel symptoms include gas, abdominal bloating, cramps in the abdomen or stomach, mucus in the stool and often a feeling of not having finished passing stools.
The intensity and frequency of the various symptoms will vary from person to person and it is important before you start on any medications, or begin following a treatment plan that you have the condition diagnosed by your doctor.
This is far from an uncommon syndrome with upto 1 in 10 hospital visits related to irritable bowel symptons. It can affect anyone at any age, although it is more common in females aged over 20.
The conditon cannot always be successfully diagnosed until it has reached a quite intense stage, this is because the patient may not want to, or be to embarrassed to visit their doctor with symptoms. Also it is often regarding as more of a psychological issue.
There are many basic treatments for irritable bowel symptoms, and often changes in lifestyle are recommended together with a change in diet, and managing stress.
